The objective of AAQS is to unite national bodies of the quantity surveyors on the African continent on a democratic basis and to foster co-operative, intellectual, cultural, educational and scientific ties among such bodies.

AAQS is a confederation of national quantity surveying associations in Africa. Membership is open to any national institute, institution, association or society which in the opinion of the Council of the AAQS represents a body of quantity surveyors in soverign countries of Africa, provided that the constitution, objectives and functions of such institute, institution, association of society are consistent with those of the AAQS.The current membership of the AAQS is:

• Angola Association of Quantity Surveyors (AnAQS);
• Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS);
• Ghana Institution of Surveyors Quantity Surveying Divison (GhIS);
• Institute of Botswana Quantity Surveyors;
• Institute of Namibian Quantity Surveyors (INQS);
• Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK);
• Institution of Surveyors of Uganda (ISU);
• Mauritius Association of Quantity Surveyors (MAQS);
• Moçambique Association of Quantity Surveyors (MoAQS);
• Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS);
• Quantity Surveyors Chapter of the Architectural Association of Kenya (QS Chapter of AAK);
• Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Botswana (RICS Botswana);
• Swaziland Association of Quantity Surveyors (SAQS);
• Tanzania Institute of Quanity Surveyors (TIQS); and
• Zimbabwe Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

The Council of the AAQS meets at least once annually with a general assembly every third year.
