International Cost Engineering Council Awards

ICEC has a number of awards that are presented on a biennial basis in conjunction with each ICEC World Congress and Council Meeting. The awards that are conferred comprise the following:

- ICEC Distinguished International Fellow Award (DIF)

- Kenneth K. Humphreys Young Student/Practitioner Paper Award

- Jan Korevaar ICEC Congress Paper Award

- ICEC Region & Chairman Awards.

Kenneth K. Humphreys Young Student/Practitioner Paper Award

The Kenneth K. Humphreys Young Student/Practitioner Paper Award was established in 2006 in recognition of Dr. Humphreys’ service as ICEC Secretary-Treasurer from 1976 until 2006. The award is open to students or young practitioners under 36 years of age and involves the submission of papers through ICEC member associations. The award program is held every 2 years in conjunction with the biennial ICEC World Congresses and the awards are presented at these Congresses. The first awards were made at the 2008 ICEC World Congress in Toronto, Canada and more recently at the 2010 ICEC World Congress in Singapore. The paper awards are available  in each of the three professional categories which make up the membership of the International Cost Engineering Council, ie, Cost Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Project Management. Therefore up to 3 awards are available (one for each of these categories).

ICEC member associations should email papers directly to the ICEC secretariat at: secretariat@icoste.org. The following dates/deadlines apply for the 2012 award program. Please note that these dates override the dates shown in the Award Rules.

31 January 2012 – Opening date for submission of entries to each member association
31 March 2012 – Closing date for submission of entries to each member association
30 April 2012 – Closing date for member associations to submit their selected paper/s to the ICEC Secretariat

The Kenneth K Humphreys Award Program

1.    The 2006 International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC) meeting decided unanimously to introduce the Kenneth K Humphreys Award for the most outstanding cost engineering, project management and quantity surveying papers by students or young members of member associations (the Awards).

ICEC Distinguished International Fellow (DIF) Award

At the 17thInternational Cost Engineering Congress in 2002 the International Cost Engineering Council instituted the award of Distinguished International Fellow. The award is conferred at each biennial ICEC World Congress and Council Meeting.

The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to ICEC and to the association or institute of which they are a member for a period of years. The recipients must be nominated to receive the award by an ICEC member association or institute. They must:

  • Have held a significant volunteer position in both ICEC and a member association or institute;
  • Have had significant involvement over a period of several years in both ICEC and a member association or institute; and
  • Must have made a significant contribution to the development of the cost management profession.

The award is not a grant of Fellow membership in ICEC but rather is recognition given to individuals who have made major contributions to ICEC and to the profession. Recipients are granted the post nominals of “DIF”.

The deadline for the nominations for the 2012 DIF Award is 30 April 2012

Jan Korevaar Outstanding Paper Award

 

Beginning in 1992 at the 12th International Cost Engineering Congress, the International Cost Engineering Council initiated the Jan Korevaar Outstanding Paper Award to recognize the paper chosen by Congress delegates through their evaluations as the outstanding paper presented at each International Cost Engineering Congress. The award was created in memory of Jan Korevaar, Executive Director of the Dutch Association of Cost Engineers and Assistant Secretary of ICEC for many years.

ICEC Region & Chairmans Awards

The International Cost Engineering Council recognizes significant contributions to the work of the Council at each biennial ICEC Congress with the presentation of ICEC Region Awards. The awards recipients are selected by the ICEC Chairman upon the recommendation of the Director of each ICEC Region. In addition, the Chairman may present a special Chairman’s Recognition to other individuals who have made significant contributions to ICEC during the Chairman’s term of office. These recognitions were first presented in 1998.

About the Award
The IET/ACostE Project Control Technical and Professional Network is pleased to announce the Terry Bishop Award.
This award recognises innovation within the Project Control discipline. It looks for new approaches that have yielded success, ultimately adding value to the project.
The Terry Bishop Award has been launched in 2011 to commemorate the contribution Terry Bishop made to the Project Controls profession. Terry, a former President of ACostE instigated the collaborative partnership between the Association of Cost Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The judges, comprising of senior members of the Association of Cost Engineers and The IET are inviting submissions that demonstrate a Value Improving Practice. This could be a project tool, practice or an innovative technique.

• Best Innovative Application of Float Management in CPA (Critical Path Analysis)
• Best Innovative Approach to Progress Measurement
• Best Engagement of Cost/Planning Tools
• Best Application of Change Control in Large Projects
• Best Innovation in Cost Estimate to Control Budget Transition
• Best Application of Contingency Development & Management
• Best Engagement of Risk Management Process with Control of Budgets and Schedules
• Best Innovation in Joint Management of Risk

Prizes
Nominees will be invited to the ACostE Annual Dinner on Wednesday 02 November 2011 in Coventry where the winning paper will receive a cash prize of £500.
The winning paper, along with the runner-up papers will be published by the IET and the ACostE as well as hold a feature position on the joint IET- ACostE Project Control TPN website.
